Home Sweet Home: Our Gingerbread House Winners
Back in December we set the challenge of designing and making a novelty Gingerbread House in the run up to Christmas.
Our inbox was quickly filled with delicious looking sugar icicles, chocolate roofs and miniature snowmen. Selecting winners was no easy task (not least because we wanted to eat every picture we were sent).
Each of our talented gingerbread architects has won a £100 Gift Card – perfect timing for our January sale.

For those of you based in Surrey, Litsa’s entry might look familiar – modeled on Reigate Priory, we thought it was an amazing effort!

- Think about a structure first – try out a template in cardboard to get the right dimensions
- Work on an oilcloth surface, to make it nice and easy to clean and smooth for rolling dough
- Remember to re-cut your gingerbread pieces after baking as they expand in the oven (keep the pieces for a snack later!)
- Bake extra pieces (in case of breakage) and fun shapes like your very own Stanley for the garden!
- Build your house on a substantial display base to make life easier when moving the house around
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Baked gingerbread structure (you can buy these ready-made, but more ambitious bakers can design and make their own)
- Royal icing
- Fondant icing
- Food colouring
- Icing syringe or piping bag with different sized nozzles
- Edible bits and pieces for decoration such as glitter, mini flowers, chocolate fingers, coconut, marzipan and candy floss (great for a smoking chimney!)
