Assistant Buyer - Home

Reports to:

Buyer

Role:

You will be responsible for supporting the Buyer with range building and product development. You will have a clear understanding of the market, be well versed on competitor activity and be able to manage suppliers in accordance with the critical path.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Works effectively with the Buyer and suppliers to proactively align company critical path to achieve Buying strategy

  • Demonstrates a broad understanding of the company structure, objectives, plans, customers, competitors and department strategy

  • Creating and briefing suppliers with tech packs for required categories

  • Understands the manufacturing structure and processes of suppliers in order to recognize cost opportunities

  • Obtains all test reports and work with Technical to and ensures the care labels meet the required standards

  • Develop supplier relationships by building strong communication links, be aware of their current product performance and any department strategies relevant to their business

  • Manages supplier performance including delivery, innovation, flexibility, price, speed of response and quality in line with critical path

  • Cost negotiations working with the buyer to hit department target margins

  • Supports Buyer in meetings with Head of Buying when required, contributes where possible, takes minutes, presents products when required and follows up afterwards on action points for the team and department

  • Takes responsibility for part of the range (participates in Range Planning and Product Development) where appropriate

  • Oversee the buying info on the range plan to ensure 100% accuracy and information is entered in a timely manner

  • Manage the Buyer’s Admin (with Buyer) set objectives, regular 1:1

Competencies:

  • Excellent skills in management of the critical path

 

Performance Indicators:

  • Excellent administrative and organization skills

  • Support the Buyer with the success of the collection

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • You will be an existing Assistant Buyer with a minimum of 3 years working experience

  • Good understanding of the company’s key competitors.

  • Excellent computer literacy: Excel / Outlook / Word essential.

  • The ability to work independently and from own initiative.

  • Previous experience in home wares required
