Imagine escaping to an island lifted straight from paradise, where animals roam freely, money literally falls from trees, trips to shops aren’t just for essentials and society is thriving.

In the midst of a global pandemic, that’s exactly the kind of welcomed escape that has captivated millions in the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Lovers of wonderful, weird and whimsical, Cath Kidston wanted to hop on the trend, allowing gamers to really brighten up their gameplay!

New Horizons is the latest installment of the social simulation series created by Nintendo, which has been around for almost 20 years! The game sees Nintendo Switch players take on the role of a lone human on an island whose aim is to create a society that flourishes by building shops, bridges and accomodation for the island's residents.

Offering an aptly timed slice of whimsical escapism, it’s easy to see why the game has become a phenomenon. Released on 20th March 2020, the New Horizons had sold 11 million copies by the end of March alone. With over 11 million players to talk to at any given time - and even the possibility of celebrities such as Stephen Fry turning up to visit your town - it’s no wonder that Animal Crossing is being coined as the perfect lockdown distraction.

And if that wasn’t enough, the game also has a wealth of customisable features, allowing players to inject even more colour into the game by personalising their character’s outfits and house interiors. Whilst its quirkiness and pops of colour may appeal to a younger audience, Animal Crossing is a game for people of all ages. Spend your time gardening and growing flowers, farming and trading resources, digging up fossils to complete a museum collection, searching the shore for messages in bottles, and creating DIY recipes. With an ambient soundtrack and the ability to play the game at your own pace, virtual gardening might even be more soothing than the real thing!

New Horizons: Cath Kidston comes to Animal Crossing

From our playful prints to signature hand-drawn florals, here at Cath Kidston we know a thing or two about adding joy and colour into your everyday. Our print collections are unique, drawing inspiration from British culture, vintage interiors and the favourite, fondest memories of our in-house design team.

We’ve selected a handful of our most iconic archive prints which you can now use to personalise your Animal Crossing gameplay. Here are the prints which are now available to upload to use within the game...

Button Rose

Our Button Rose print is a definitive Cath Kidston floral. This timeless classic was inspired by a roll of wallpaper at a vintage market and was initially designed to be used on homewares, laundry and toiletry products.

Our Button Rose print is a true classic. Use this print on anything from table cloths to cushions and covers.

Strawberry Gingham

Our Strawberry Gingham print was inspired by childhood memories of British summers spent savouring rare moments of sunshine with strawberry picking and picnics in the park.. The print features juicy strawberries dotted through a classic, vintage gingham, a nod to our print heritage, where strawberries were first drawn way back in 1999 and have since featured on some of our most iconic summer ranges. You can find this print on our bags, blankets and clothing, such as this gorgeous Strawberry Check Tote.

We love this design and believe it would look lovely as a cushion or table cloth.

Wheels and Wings Cadet

Our Wheels and Wings Cadet print is another print which looks as if it has been lifted straight from a child’s imagination. In fact, a lot of the ideas for our kids prints are the joint workings of our print director, Christine, and her children during evening story time. Another of our novelty prints, this print features a collection of wheels and wings - from the iconic bright red London double-decker bus to boats and helicopters!

Ideal for personalising your cushions, bed covers, or even flooring within the game.
