How To Incorporate Self-care Into Your Day

With a busy work schedule, socialising, the gym, housework, and for the parents amongst us, taking care of the children, it can be hard to find time for some proper self-care. We often put others first, but it’s important to make time for ourselves as much as for anyone else.

Here’s the ultimate guide to taking a self-care day.

What is self-care?

Self-care can be classified as anything you do that prioritises and supports your own physical and mental well-being. Some find solace in curling up with a good book in their favourite chair at the end of the day, while others like to relax with their favourite classic films or switch off with a spot of crafting. No matter your preference, making sure you take a break from the strain of everyday life is important for your mental and physical health.

With all of this in mind, we have created a new collection of toiletries for Autumn, as part of our Power to the Peaceful range. Using fragrant essential oils, designed to bring moments of tranquillity to your life, they’re the perfect addition to an at-home pamper session.

HOW TO CREATE A SELF-CARE ROUTINE

Having a set routine in place can make self-care a consistent part of your life. Slip small moments into your daily activities to help relieve stress without feeling like you’re just adding to your to-do list. They need to be effortless, enjoyable, and most of all, relaxing!

  • Take five minutes to yourself away from screens to enjoy a warming drink in your favourite floral mug.
  • Give yourself a massage in the shower to release muscle tension.
  • Go for a mood-lifting walk every day – whether that’s in the morning, on your lunch break, or when you finish work
  • Listen to something soothing on your commute – you could play your favourite mood-boosting songs or tune into a calming podcast
  • Try some gentle meditation – this can take as little as five minutes and can be done before you set foot out of bed
  • Drink plenty of water

Allowing yourself luxury days can do wonders for your energy. But catching little moments of joy is just as important. Simply donning a comfortable, colourful print robe (or your favourite pyjama set) after a shower can act as self-care.

How to enjoy a self-care day

Adding little bursts of self care during your normal working days can help to keep you in a positive mindset and ready to tackle all your tasks. But every once in a while, you need and deserve a full 24 hours to yourself. Whether you take the day off work or get the grandparents to look after the kids one Saturday, make sure you carve out a self-care day every so often for a full recharge.

How you decide to spend that day is up to you. You might find relaxation in an hours-long bubble bath accompanied by a glass of red wine and that book you’ve been meaning to read for months. Or self care for you might be an energising hike up the mountainside to see the beautiful sights and enjoy a well-earned picnic at the top. Whatever you do, though, be sure to throw yourself into it completely – no feeling guilty for doing something that isn’t on your to-do list and try not to get tempted to use the day to do your chores instead of pampering yourself. Sticking a load of laundry on before your bath-time relaxation is fine, but if you’re clearing out the fridge and scrubbing out the microwave, that’s house care and not self care!
